Golf schools in France: choose the right course for your level

Golf schools in France in one paragraph

A golf school, or golf clinic, packs several hours of coaching into 1 to 5 days, with a qualified golf professional and a small group. You choose one on three criteria: your level, the format (with or without accommodation) and the region. This page compares the formats offered in France by organisers we checked on 1 October 2026. Our database lists 686 golf courses to choose from.

Golf schools at a glance

  • Length. From 1 to 5 days or more. EGF, a network of independent golf professionals, advertises 3 to 20 hours of coaching depending on the package.
  • Group size. EGF limits its courses to 4 players. UCPA adult holidays bring together 6 to 12 players.
  • Coaching. A qualified golf professional. UCPA states that its coaches hold a French state diploma.
  • Content. Technical workshops in the morning. Play on the course in the afternoon, alone or with the coach.
  • Membership. Usually not needed. UGOLF says so: you do not need to be a member of a golf club to join its courses.

Choosing a golf school for your level

Golf schools for beginners

You have never held a club, or you are aiming for the carte verte, the French certificate that opens full-size courses. A beginner course lays the foundations: grip, stance, putting, short game, then your first holes. Examples we checked:

  • EGF offers beginner courses and carte verte courses, from 2 to 5 days.
  • UGOLF runs courses all year round to learn the basics, at the golf clubs in its network.
  • UCPA offers a "Full Golf spécial débutant" holiday for 18 to 55-year-olds, with a half set of clubs and range balls provided.

If you have never tried golf, start with a taster session before you book five days. If your goal is to play a full-size course, read our page on playing golf in France and the carte verte: it explains what the professional assesses.

Intensive improvement courses

You already play and one part of your game holds your score back: putting, bunker shots, a consistent long game. An improvement course works on that point in a small group. An example published by EGF at the Golf de la Bretesche, in Missillac (Loire-Atlantique):

  • 3 days, 13 hours of coaching;
  • 2 to 4 players;
  • morning workshops: putting and reading greens, chip and pitch shots, full swing, bunkers;
  • video swing analysis, a practice notebook and 2 green fees included.

EGF also sorts some courses by handicap, including one for players with an index under 15. UGOLF lists among its topics the swing, the short game, ball flight, scoring and course strategy.

Residential golf schools

A golf school with accommodation saves you looking for a hotel and organising transfers. There are two models.

Golf school and hotel booked together

EGF sells "golf school + hotel" packages of 2 to 5 days, with 6 to 20 hours of coaching. The places it lists:

  • Provence: Golf de Barbaroux, in Brignoles (Var);
  • Pays de la Loire: Golf de la Bretesche, in Missillac (Loire-Atlantique), where the estate rents rooms on site;
  • Basque Country: the Biarritz area;
  • Île-de-France: Golf de Noisy-le-Roi (Yvelines);
  • Haute-Savoie: the Léman training centre.

Full-board golf holidays

UCPA houses its adult players in Lacanau Océan (Gironde) and Les Deux Alpes (Isère), for 7 days and 6 nights, full board. The holiday includes a half set of clubs and practice balls. Travel is not included.

If you mainly want hotel nights and green fees, with few or no lessons, you need a golf holiday, not a golf school.

Going solo, as a single player or as a couple

Among the organisers we checked, we found no golf school reserved for singles in France. Three formats work when you travel alone:

  • The small-group course. At EGF, you book a place and join 1 to 3 other players of your level.
  • The group holiday. UCPA brings together 6 to 12 players aged 18 to 55 for a week, with shared accommodation and meals.
  • The private course. EGF offers a VIP SOLO package, one golf professional for you alone, and a VIP DUO package for two people, from 1 to 5 days.

Golf schools for children

  • Golf schools take children from the age of 6, according to the French Golf Federation.
  • UGOLF runs courses during the French school holidays.
  • UCPA offers 5 to 7-day holidays for 11 to 17-year-olds, in Bois-le-Roi (Seine-et-Marne), Saint-Cyprien (Pyrénées-Orientales) and Lacanau Océan (Gironde), with 10 young players at most per session.

Golf schools by region

Golf schools in the Var

The Var has 18 golf courses in our database, 6 of them with a compact course for beginners. EGF runs courses there at the Golf de Barbaroux, in Brignoles, with or without a hotel. To see every course in the département and on the French Riviera: the golf courses of Provence and the French Riviera.

Golf schools in Paris and Île-de-France

Paris itself has only one golf course in our database, the 9-hole Golf ParisLongchamp. Golf schools therefore take place outside the city, across the 81 golf courses of the region. Examples we checked:

  • EGF at the Golf de Lésigny (Seine-et-Marne) and the Golf de Noisy-le-Roi (Yvelines);
  • the UGOLF golf clubs of Île-de-France, which run their courses on sign-up at each club's reception.

Budget: what the organisers advertise

Each organiser sets its own price, and it changes with the season. Price ranges taken from their websites on 1 October 2026, to confirm when you book:

  • EGF: from 150 € to more than 1,200 € per person for the course alone, depending on the length and the number of hours;
  • EGF, course and hotel together: from 680 € per person for the cheapest package listed;
  • UCPA, 7-day adult holiday, full board: from 710 to 845 € per person depending on the date, travel not included.

Before you compare two prices, check what they cover: hours of coaching, green fees, range balls, club hire, meals.

Questions to ask before you book

  1. How many hours of coaching, and how much time on the course?
  2. How many players per golf professional?
  3. What level is required? Do I need the carte verte or a handicap index?
  4. Are green fees, range balls and club hire included?
  5. Do I need a French golf licence to play the course?
  6. What happens if it rains or if I cancel?

Frequently asked questions

How long does a golf school last?

Usually 1 to 5 days. EGF advertises 3 to 20 hours of coaching depending on the package, and UCPA one-week holidays.

Do I need to know how to play to join a golf school?

No. Beginner courses start from zero. UCPA, for example, provides the clubs and the balls. Improvement courses, on the other hand, expect you to play on a course already.

Do I need to be a member of a golf club to join a golf school?

Usually not. UGOLF states that its courses are open to players from outside. Ask the golf club whether a French golf licence is required to play the course.

Are there golf schools with accommodation in France?

Yes. EGF sells golf school and hotel packages of 2 to 5 days, and UCPA one-week full-board holidays in Lacanau Océan and Les Deux Alpes.

Does a golf school give me the carte verte?

A carte verte course prepares you for the assessment, but it is the club's golf professional who issues the card, after a quiz and a test on the course.
